Special Consensus celebrated its milestone 50th anniversary in 2025, marking five decades as one of bluegrass music’s most respected and enduring bands. Led by founder Greg Cahill, the group continues to deliver a vibrant contemporary bluegrass sound deeply rooted in tradition while remaining committed to innovation and musical excellence. Over the years, Special C has released 22 recordings and received two Grammy nominations and eight International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) awards. In June 2025, the band released its newest album, Been All Around This World, on the Nashville-based Compass Records label to celebrate its Golden Anniversary.

Greg Cahill, a recipient of the prestigious IBMA Distinguished Achievement Award and an inductee into the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America (SPBGMA) Hall of Greats, has guided the band through five decades of growth and success. The band’s longevity and continued relevance are a testament to its enduring artistry, influence, and dedication to the bluegrass tradition.

Special Consensus’ sound is grounded in a deep appreciation and understanding of bluegrass music, incorporating both the drive and harmonies of the traditional sound with the contemporary influences and repertoire of today. With the foundation of Greg’s unique banjo style and the vocal prowess of 2023 and 2025 IBMA Male Vocalist of the Year Greg Blake (guitar and vocals), Brian McCarty (mandolin and vocals), and Nico Humby (bass and vocals), the band maintains its bluegrass center whether performing a jazz-tinged instrumental or a song from its award-winning catalog. These four talented vocalists and instrumentalists follow their creative instincts without straying far from their roots.
